RARE Norwegian "Press Box / Ace of Spades" Promo Box 1981

MOTORHEAD Ace of Spades 1981 Promotion Box made for Norway only. Extremely rare. They said it was made "500" copies that were given to Radio, Tv, and Magazines in Norway. Those who got the box opened them and gave out the items at the time so there are only a few complete copies left.
Box Contains: Autographs of LEMMY, PHILTHY and EDDIE on the inside of the cover, Ace of Spades record, St Valentines Day Masacre maxi 10", Concert video and Interview Cassette Tape. 2 Promotion photos, Promo Slides for light show. Beer can with Motorhead sticker on, Sweater with MOTORHEAD logo and reads "Europe 1981", a copy of Sounds magazine with Lemmy as sex symbol of the year. Papers from record label: A card with history on back side, Chart list, News, Discography, Press tour Europe, Interview on paper and papers translated to Norwegian.

Any one who finds  me one of these will be hansomely rewareded.

This copy sold in Sept. 2011.

Another was listed  iin 2014 on ebay for $1400,
apparently the exact same bos was listed in 2015 was one listed on ebay, listed with the "buy it now" option for $1500.again it was listed at $1100 , but still did not sell.

The content in these boxes varies, apparently Bronze tended to put in whatever was lying around. The front cover of the box is black with the Motorhead logo in silver. Here is an example of the content in one box: NSTH LP, European tour '81 Sweatshirt, 3 b+w press photos , a biography & press release plus some photocopied reviews, an interview tape, and two colour slides from AOS LP. Another copy had 7 pages interview, 3 pages biography, 1 page discography, interview cassette, 2 black and white photos, oversized playing card, 2 color slides, the 1st video release, AOS lp and St Valentine's 10" I've heard others had the 1st video release, and/or a tin of Motorhead beer (!) in them, some had the AOS LP instead of the NSTH LP, and not all had the Sweatshirt, the slides or the tape. I suppose they were distributed not only in UK but also outside of the UK. It would be interesting to know how many that were made. A few of them most likely have been split and all that remains is the box itself. In February 2010 Ketil Svendsen wrote about his copy and showed a lot of pictures. He found it in a basement based second hand record store in the early 90s. It included everything except for the beer can. Ketil thinks that his box stems from Motorheads February 23rd 1981 visit to Oslo, as it contains some press information in Norwegian. In Norway promoter Arne “Blå ballong” Bendixen was the licensee of Bronze. He also lists the complete content:
1 Overkill LP
1 Bomber LP
1 Ace of Spades LP
1 St Valentines Day Massacre 10? EP
1 black Sweat-shirt, with discrete silver logo and “Europe 1981?. Size “S”.
2 B/W photos 190×200 mm, both Ace of Spades themed
2 large format colour slides, one Ace of Spades themed, one casual
1 over-sized Ace of Spades playing card, 210×135 mm, silver cardboard, with band biography on the flip side.
1 stenciled translation of above into norwegian. Light yellow paper.
1 stenciled discography, singles and albums, per country. White paper.
1 Bronze official “NEWS” sheet: “stop press”, stating “St Valentines Day Massacre” had reached #15 in the UK top 75 singles chart.
1 press info sheet, 2 pages, on the purpose of the “Motorhead Week” promo campaign the last half of february 1980.
1 press info sheet on chart positions
1 VHS promo video, with the usual round-up of lip-sync’d extravaganza. Black cover with silver logo.
1 interview cassette, with all questions silenced out, ready for any local “interviewer’s” 15 minutes of glory. Lemmy jokes about Rockin’ Vickers and mentions Hawkwind, and how he “wanted to be the MC5?. Black cover with silver logo.
1 14 stenciled pages of transcribed interview from above cassette.
1 issue of UK music paper SOUNDS, dated February 21 1981.
1 issue of Norwegian music paper Nye Takter, dated March 18 1981 – post campaign.
The two paged press info sheet give some clue to both the campaign and the content of this box: The promotion dates that made up “Motorhead Week” were February 17th to 27th, starting with Brussels, two days in Barcelona, Oslo/Stockholm, Hamburg/Munich, two days in Madrid and finally Milan. Climate refugees? They certainly didn’t waste any time where the sun didn’t shine. The 3rd of March they were off on a sixteen day French tour. According to the press info sheet, the following items were to be found - but the content seem to have varied:
The “St. Valentine’s Day Massacre” EP (recorded with Girlschool)
A V.H.S. video featuring Motorhead in concert
A Motorhead interview cassette
A Motorhead Sweat-shirt
Colour and black & white photos of the band
A Biography on the reverse of a 12 inch square “Ace of Spades” playing card
A Discography with details of British single and LP chart success
A can of Motorhead beer – Carlsberg Special Brew
In September 2011 another copy was sold on German Ebay. The content was listed as "LP Ace of Spades , 10" Motörhead/Girlschool : St. Valentines Day Massacre , Zeitung "Sounds" vom 21.

Headcat Part 1 - LP's

Headcat was formed in 1999 and featured Lemmy, (Bass/Acoustic Guitar), Slim Jim Phantom (Stray Cats, Phantom, rocker, and Slick, Swing Cats, Love Hope and Strenght Acoustic Band), (Drums), & Danny B. Harvey (13 Cats, Action Dogs, Levi Dexter & the Ripchords, Lonesome Spurs, Mad Violets, The Devils Daughters, The Rockcats, The Wild Hyenas,  Trigger and the Thrill Kings, Twenty Flight Rockers)., (Guitar). Headcat was formed after recording the Elvis Presley tribute album Swing Cats, A Special Tribute to Elvis Presley.
in July 1999 and featured the members as contributors. After the recordngs they stayed in the studio and Lemmy grabbed an acoustic guitar and started strummin some of his old favorites by Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, and Johnny Cochran. The rest of the guys all joined in as they all knew them as well.
The name Headcat comes from combining the names Motorhead and The Stray Cats (similar to what Motorhead did with Girlschool,  "Headgirl" in the '80's).

In 2006 the band released their first album "Fools Paradise" which was a re-release of an album called "Lemmy, Slim Jim & Danny B" recorded in 1999 but didn't include a couple songs on Fools Paradise  as well as the tracklist being in a different order. the album featured songs from such artists as Buddy Holly, Jimmy Reed, Johnny Cochran, T-Bone Walker, Lloyd Price, Elvis Presley, and Johnny Cash.
on recordings Lemmy played acoustic guitar as well as on 'Rockin' the Cat Club" the only live album that they have, and for future gigs played his signature Rickenbacker citing; 'I'm just not that good on guitar." Before that re-elease a DVD of a live performance was released on April 25th 2006 the album was recorded on January 13 2004, and was released in 2006 on a limited vinyl release of 322 copies. Filmed at Slim Jim's Cat Club on the sunset strip and featured 17 live songs as well as interviews with the band.
